Within Wales we have particularly harsh winters- which bear down on our fences.
Prolonged periods of wetness within the soil, and short periods of daylight is an ideal breeding ground for destroying our fences through wood rot.
This article has been put together for helpful tips on how to maintain your fence over the winter periods.
Have you not got the time to paint your fence panels?
During the weekends it’s understandable you would want to kick back and relax, and not have to do any DIY type tasks!
Although this is pretty essential during the winter months for your fencing system.
If you have not got the time to fully paint your fence yourself, then why not paint the most crucial parts, such as the fence posts, with a specialist wood preservative especially at the bottom.
This is where water is often allowed to ingress within the wood
This wood then becomes quickly rotted and deteriorated during the winter months, because there is little daylight to dry out especially the bottom fence posts.
By adding a specialist wood outdoor preservative to your wooden post’s, you are preserving the life of your fencing system for longer than if it was left untreated.
Make sure that your fence posts have sufficient depth
It’s within our winter periods that the strong winds start, these may blow over some fence systems completely.
If you have a wonky fence that moves slightly in the wind then it’s time to take action as often a fence can quickly collapse shortly after discovering such a problem.
Why not make a quick fix to try and strengthen the fence posts?
This can be achieved by further imbedding them within concrete or even putting outrigger style wood to further support the posts into position.
